Life Ain't Nothing But A Seesaw

The only permanent thing in this world is change, so said the Greek philosopher Heraclitus, I think.

While we all have come to the realization and acceptance that the world changes all the time, there have also been times when we wished certain things and aspects of our lives, and our world, remain the same.

Everything changes

I'm sure y'all have wished for some things to remain as they were. But hey, we all know how the world works, no?

2 years ago today, I wished that I was back in the States during the 4th of July weekend. It was not out of any patriotic leanings towards the country but rather, it was the way Independence Day was celebrated that I missed. The celebration was not just about the birth of a nation, it was much more than that.

And last year, on the same day, my wish was sort of granted. No, I still didn't go back to the States but at least I had something to celebrate about and people to celebrate with.

I've always said that to forget, we need to remember...

Whereas the year before that was greeted with nothing but a wistful longing, last year’s was actually celebrated. It may not have come close to how it’s done back in the States but it was a huge step up compared to the year before.

But unfortunately, and because the world always changes, this year, I am back to where I was 2 years ago.

There would be no celebration of any kind but you know what, it’s not even the fireworks or the barbecue or the get-together that pains me the most; it’s the blatant difference of how my life was last year to how it is this year.

Life eh?

Happy 4th of July Y'all!

Last year today, I was complete and I belonged and I felt loved.

It is only one year but what a difference!

Happy 4th of July Y'all!
