The Philippines Has A New President

Senator Benigno Aquino III, the son of martyred Senator Benigno Aquino Jr. and former President Corazon Aquino, who ascended to power through a bloodless people’s uprising that ousted the Marcos dictatorship in 1986, has been proclaimed as the country’s 15th President.

Ninoy Aquino

It must be stressed here that the people's revolution that made Cory Aquino president was brought about by the assassination of Ninoy Aquino on his return from exile.

Philippine politics is sometimes very soap opera-ish, playing before the Filipinos very eyes and even if they already know the eventual ending, they still grasp their seats in anticipation for that day to arrive.

Noy-Noy Aquino, a he is popularly known, had no plans of seeking the presidency but when his mother died in August 2009, and upon seeing how much his family name meant to the Filipinos, seized the momentum of outpouring griefs and decided to go for the highest post in the country.

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm impartial when it comes to Philippine politics. And in no way I am belittling their new president but the world knows that he is not the most qualified to run the country.

But Filipinos are a very sentimental lot. They are guided by their feelings most of the times and even when they're supposed to use their head, they still go with their sentiments.

Anyways, all I can hope is that he will make his late father proud; something that his mother failed to do. After all, both him and his mother were catapulted into the presidency in memory and because of Ninoy.

Congrats Mr President!

P.S.

Pacman, the best pound-for-pound boxer in history, is now a Congressman! LOL
