Committed To The Game

Finally, Maxis has done a commercial worth watching!

Their World Cup commercial, to introduce their free mobile content, features the greatest soccer heroes the country has ever seen. The first ad is of Dato Soh Chin Aun, the most capped player in Malaysian football and the captain of the team that qualified for the 1980 Olympics.

The Malaysian soccer team then was a force to be reckoned with. Besides Soh Chin Aun, the team had his center-back partner Santok Singh, the Sabah striking duo of James Wong and Hassan Sani, R. Amurugam, and of course, the greatest Malaysian player ever, Mokhtar Dahari.

I think the 2nd ad is out, this time it is James Wong narrating back his famous goal that won the game for Malaysia. You know what would be great though? If they do an ad about the legendary Mokhtar Dahari, narrated by his teammates who are still alive. For those who do not know, the late striker, who scored 125 goals for the country, died of Lou Gehrig’s disease at the age of 37, the same age as that of the Yankees legend.

Anyways, I believe that the current nation team is nowhere near. I really think that we won’t see another team like the one captained by Dato Soh in this lifetime.

Sad but true.

But Maxis has done a something to remind us how great we were once.
