My Bitching Buddies...

Like any other multi-national organization in the country, one is bound to have their own 'clique'; people they hang out with, confide in and go to lunch with. I am no exception...

I have my own people whom I have grown to be close to in the short months that I have been with Nestle. There are three of them and they have tremendously helped me adjust to how structured we are.

The one I treasure the most is Liza; I call her Kak Liza and was the first person to attend to me in my first official day in the office. She was running around getting me all the official documents and ‘tool’ that I needed – Tag, Parking Lot, Notebook, IT connection, etc. She is with our HR department and is responsible for the welfare of the employees from the Commercial team.

I also know that being one of the most treasured talent, she was ‘asked’ by the powers that be to take care of me and make sure that I am adjusting well. But our relationship has turned into more than your normal HR-Talent rapport; she has evolved into someone I can really trust and confide in and whenever I have issues, she had always been there for me, allowing me to adjust well.

Then there is Kimi or Kimster as we call her and the youngest one among us. The casualty during lunch time - the rest likes to eat rice - because we tend to go to the same restaurant day in, day out.

Kimster is a person who is working for the wrong department. She wants to get into Branding - and she has the right personality and attitude for it - but somehow or rather, she's with the HR department doing Talent Management. Of course, initially, she needs to tend to me because I am part of her job, but like Kak Liza, we have gone beyond that and eventually became friends.

Then there is Fara, the model employee. She has been in Nestle for 10 fucking years and despite all that, she is still so in-love with here work and take it seriously, too fucking serious most of the times. She is our IS/IT manager and takes care of the 'geeky' stuff; but she's far from your being one, she's pretty stylish actually.

They are my bitching and smoking buddies but more importantly, my friends in the office. We rendezvous at the smoking area and just whine and bitch about our respective bosses or workloads! I don't bitch as much as they do but I do lend an ear whenever anyone of them needs a sounding board.

One thing I learned though is that, to have a long career with an organization as huge as ours, you need someone to talk to; people whom you can count on to when things don’t go as planned…

And lucky for me, I have them…
