Will Forever Be Remembered

This morning, at approximately 11:30 am, my mom called and informed me that my grandaunt has passed on to the eternal life :(

Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Illayhi Rajiun

She was an ustazah who taught Islam in one of the schools in Jolo and was a surrogate mother to my mom. My maternal grandmother died of breast cancer when my mom was still a teenager and growing up, I never knew any other grandmother from my mom's side besides her.

She taught me my 'Al-Fatiha' and was also the first one who taught me how to pray. She told me stories about the Muslim prophets and what they did. She was the only one who called me Ibrahim, always telling me as a kid that I have a beautiful name and that I should never ever be ashamed of being called Ibrahim.

She maintained a savings account for me for more than 20 years and though it wasn't much considering what she did; it was still priceless to me because that was how she loved me.

Inah, I know you are in a better place now and my only regret is that I wasn't able to be there for you as much as I should have been.

Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Illayhi Rajiun...
