The Petronas TVC's: The Brainchild of a Living Legend

Every year, I know a lot of people who look forward to watching the new Petronas TV Commercials - be it Hari-Raya, Deepavali or Chinese New Year and this year was no exception...

If truth be told, I haven't been following these ads since 2003, mainly because I have been too engrossed with work and whenever these holidays come up, I'm normally out of the country trying to recuperate from stress at work... And having been glued to the other international channels on Astro, even when I am in the country, I tend to miss these commercials...

This year however, wherever I go, I'm met with the same question: "have you seen the new Petronas TVC?" And after hearing the same question over and over again, I told myself that I need to tune in to the local channels and try to catch the commercial...

When I woke up this morning, and while having my morning Nescafe and reading the Star, guess what was one of the articles? Yup, the Petronas Ads... I told myself that I really had to, more like needed to, watch this ad or I would go bonkers! I flip-channeled between the local stations for 3 hours and I never got to see the ads :( As a last resort, I searched for them in youtube and finally, I saw the ads...

The Deepavali was aight, nothing much to shout about; the concept, idea and intention were very good but the execution was just so-so in my opinion... I am no expert but it did not hit me the way I expected, after hearing so much about it the last few days...

I proceeded to watch the Hari-Raya commercial and I was blown away! It nearly put me to tears; my eyes were encircled with them but they refused to fall... And I think had goosebumps all over! The first thought that came to me was, KaK Min has done it again!

I have been an admirer of Yasmin Ahmad even before I joined the Leo Burnett family and even after I left, I have remained an admirer... I still vividly remember the first time I met her; it was my 1st day in LB and we needed to run something over with her... I was in awe, really in awe... Here was one person I have always admired in the past and now, I am in front of her! And when I heard her speak - in those motherly tones - I just realized why she was special... It's really hard to explain in words the effect Kak Min can have on a person but it did dawned on me that day, that this woman will live forever...

With all that is going on with Leo Burnett right now, I know for a fact that she will be above them... This may not hold true with some of the Burnetters but majority of them - past and present - will attest to the simple fact that she is above and beyond Leo Burnett!

Kak Min, I pray that you will live till you're over a hundred years old but when Allah SWT finally calls you to join His ranks, I am sure your legend and legacy will forever live!
